Our stay at Explorers Retreat was truly magical. The location, right inside the park, was absolutely perfect for our family adventure. The room itself was filled with enchanting "wizardy" details that delighted both the kids and adults. The bunk beds area was especially spacious and comfortable. We also loved the balcony and the breathtaking view over Matlock. The entertainment, including the interactive singing and dancing, was a wonderful touch that kept the kids entertained throughout our stay.
While our overall experience was amazing, there were a couple of minor drawbacks. The sink being located on the toilet cistern made it a bit inconvenient to wash our faces and clean our teeth.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful during our stay. the pirate-themed room was loved by our kids and it was spotlessly clean. the beds were very comfortable and the main bedroom had plenty of plug sockets and a TV with Netflix. the bathroom had hot water and a good shower. the entertainment for children was fun and there were slides outside for younger kids to play on.
The lack of handrails in the rooms made it difficult for young children to navigate the stairs without bumping into the sharp wood. the rooms themselves were a bit cramped and not well ventilated, which made sleeping uncomfortable in the heat.

We stayed at the Explorers Retreat in Matlock for one night and chose a Pirate room for our little boy. The room was clean and had a lovely pirate decor, with comfy beds, lots of towels and extra pillows. The triple bunk beds were awesome! The location was great, just a short walk to Matlock Bath. The staff was helpful and accommodating. better than expected and the kids loved it. We would definitely stay again.
Couldn't recommend this hotel more.

The themed rooms were a hit with the kids and added to the excitement of our Christmas stay. The marshmallow toasting in the evening was a fun activity for the whole family to enjoy. The hotel's proximity to Gulliver's Kingdom made it extremely convenient for a day of adventure.
The cleanliness of the room left much to be desired, with a bag of rubbish and mildew in the shower. The lack of proper cleaning gave off a damp and musty smell that was quite off-putting.

Great for a quick stay, my kid loved the bunk beds and the compact room had some nice touches. The staff were friendly and the location was convenient for exploring the area.
The sink above the toilet was a terrible idea, impossible to use and the bathroom had a horrible smell. Also, the noise from the neighboring room was bothersome in the mornings.

As a tourist, I absolutely loved my stay at this retreat in Matlock. the themed decoration was carried through on everything, even the stools had names! the entertainment and games for kids were brilliant, making it a perfect place for families. the staff went above and beyond, even helping us remove frozen snow from our car. the location was beautiful, with Matlock Bath just a 5-minute walk away. the accommodation was cozy, tidy, and fresh, with clean showers and comfy beds. the price was worth every penny, and the added bonus of Netflix on the TVs was a nice touch. it's a place that will create great memories.
Felt really like home, no complaints.

The bedding in the room can be a bit too hot, with no option for just a sheet instead of a duvet.
